My Personal Teaching Philosophy
Engage, Enrich, Explore, Encourage and Empower. These five words are the basis of my teaching philosophy and what I believe is important in teaching and learning. These words describe what I want to do to be an effective teacher, and how I want the students in my classroom to feel. It is all of these ‘e’ words that flow through my whole philosophy of teaching.
Students should have the opportunity by an enthusiastic teacher to be excited and engaged with learning in a way so they are attentive, interested and optimistic. It is by capturing their interests from the start to finish I can have the greatest impact upon them. As a teacher I want to enrich them with information and authentic experiences to ignite their curiosity. This then leads to exploration where students can actively construct their own learning by taking centre stage in the classroom. Collaboration is key in this process. I view myself as a facilitator in learning. I aim to provide students with praise and constructive feedback. Through being passionate, approachable and supportive of students, I can be their guide and help in them along in their lifelong journey as learners.
As well as providing students with a wealth of information and knowledge I aim to create situations where students can take control of what they learn and apply it in a real life context to create meaning. It is this approach that allows students to make what they learn part of themselves. I want to challenge andencourage students out of their comfort zones to reach their full potential. It is all of these elements combined that enable students to feel empowered, with the right tools, resources and guidance students are able to achieve their goals.
Not only do I want to promote empowerment in my classroom, but also inclusion. I embrace diversity and appreciate differences. Every student is unique, and therefore should be treated as individuals. I strongly believe treating all students equally does not mean equity. I am conscious and take into consideration all of the different styles and rates of learning when planning. Getting to know my student is therefore very important. By appreciating diversity within the classroom I hope to instil this quality among students. I endeavour to create a positive, safe and open environment where relationships are respected and students can feel a sense of community.
All of these elements combined create my personal teaching ethos and what value in education. As a teacher I have the ability to have a great impact and influence upon students, with the opportunity to inspire and shape their young minds. I am passionate and have a deep thrill and joy for learning.

I would invite my student’s parents in and show this presentation in the early stages of the school year to form relationships. It would provide the opportunity for parents to get to know me, and my values and beliefs about teaching and learning.
